Thanks for the info. Very helpful.The box jellyfish in Bonaire come to feed, usually at night when the upwelling of organisms from the deep occurs. I imagine it is the same in other locations but but my experience with them is in Bonaire. And, yes, they are attracted to lights. There are some box jellyfish present in the daytime also, but the majority are present at night
As I said in my post I have had some near misses. One was in Curacao at the house reef at Allwest Apartments (Playa Grandi) coming to shore after a morning night dive (head in before sunrise) and encountered box jellies in the very shallows just before my exit at about face level. Would have been a nasty encounter and not really prepared to have dealt with it. The spray and cream are small enough to travel with and keep either in my small bag on a boat dive , to take with me on a shore dive or have in the room diving a house reef. I don't want to be running around looking for vinegar at 6 am after getting a face encounter with boxers.
