So I know that exercising before diving can increase ones propensity to DCS. However, I have never heard or read much regarding what level of exercise one should avoid and/or how long should someone wait to dive after exercising. While I am no fitness freak, I am fighting this middle age deal kicking and screaming to the end. This means I try to run at least three miles 3 to 4 days a week and I usually strength train 2 or 3 days a week-just 45 minutes (nothing real strenuous-mainly to maintain core strength and not so much to build muscle mass). Basically I would say I exercise "moderately" not "vigorously".

So based on this description, to be a conservative diver, how long would you wait to dive? If I run 3 -4 miles at 6:00 a.m. would I be alright making a couple dives in the middle of that same afternoon staying within normal NDL on a conservative computer?

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

Other way round, exercise BEFORE diving could be beneficial in resisting DCS.
Its exercise AFTER diving thats potentially troublesome.

What you suggest sounds fine.

What you don't want to do is enter your preparations dive all pumped up. For some divers the very process of lugging, prepping and getting into gear can be a bit stressful, you want to enter this process relaxed. Left unchecked this can lead to stress and a host of bad outcomes.

With hours to cool down I wouldn't give it a second thought. I will frequently spend an hour behind a lawnbower before heading off for a dive.
