We again attempted to dive the Marineland platform this morning, but the visibility was still less than two feet. I was ready to pass on diving this week until Merry convinced me to try the Redondo barge. We had about fifteen feet of murky vis, but the fun today was at the surface. Our friend Catalina Guerra took photos of jellies at the surface, plus sea lions and dolphins leaping above the surface. I managed a few shots under water, but I couldn't wait to get back up to the fun.

Wow. You've taken some great Zooanthid shots over the last year and that one ranks high up there. Really like the crispness and shine of the second Simnia shot. Congrats on the Daily Breeze mention as well. I've only caught one sighting of an Orca on our coast and it was while kayaking from Marineland to Christmas Tree Cove on a free-dive session. We had just past Pt.Vicente and encountered a pod of dolphins when I glimpsed one out of the corner of my eye. As I turned to focus on her, she began to slip beneath her wake but I knew what I had seen from the distinct color patterns and size.

max, I seen seals in the sanjuans jump like that and it was a mating thing it was pretty incrediable, do you think the sealion is jumping out of water for same reason, or do they have other reasons for coming out like that. Very cool!!

Happy Diving

There was a bull with a dozen or more females with him, so it may have been a mating thing. He and his harem were all over us on the barge, but the vis wasn't enough for wide angle.

Max, I love your macro photographs of patterns and texture! And those shots of the leaping animals are very unusual. I think I'd frame a couple!

FAbulous photos! I really miss Calif diving. We didn't come out last summer as we went to the NC coast instead. This summer I am thinking about doing both. :D WWII wrecks and sharks in NC, nudibranchs and sea lions in Channel Islands. ;)

Wow! Again, great shots Phil.

Great shots, Phil. You and Merry need to come out to Catalina. Vis was 35-40 ft this weekend.

Nice work Phil!
