Has anybody out there ever dived in a neoprene drysuit with an oral inflator?

Some of our first suits (OS Systems) had oral inflator mechanisms on them. They were AWFUL!

In order to inflate without blowing water directly into the suit, you had to maneuver the hose in such a way as to form a standpipe. Then, to get air out on ascednt, you had to lean back and again fool around with the hose to try to form a seal of sorts so that water didn't rush in while purging. I think we only had those for a year or so before our legal dude had a heart attack and made us go with more expensive, but functional valves.

Just my $.02

The original O'Neill Supersuit and Bayley suits used oral inflation. What you did (if you were smart) was add a power inflator to the oral inflate to make life easier.

Venting was done by opening the neck seal a tad if things got hairy, or venting through the oral inflator. Thinking back, I kinda liked them. These all-neoprene drysuits certainly came nowhere close to "actually" keeping you dry, but then again you were on the cutting edge of dive technology then.

They were fun!!!
