Wonderful stuff spt29970! Great experience. The only time I've seen that many was at the colony on Santa Barbara Island. Was that on the back side?

I was diving Farnsworth Bank one day with a huge school of baitfish and dozens of sea lions in the upper water column. It was definitely a great experience and welcome relief on my long deco stop.

I am pretty sure that this was primarily feeding behavior too. When I first arrived on the scene and found them swirling around, I noticed small white things floating in the water. I grabbed one and found that it was a squid tentacle. I figure that they sea lions had chased up some squid from the deep and were feasting on it. They were polishing up the scraps when I arrived.

parabolic: Yes this was on the back side. We were heading for San Miguel but got chased back to Santa Cruz by the storm we had last week. It happens a lot this time of year.
