To my knowledge there is no "conservative setting" on my zoop.

There is, they call it "personal adjustment mode". You get to choose P0, P1 or P2. Some other Suuntos have P-1 and P-2 which are slightly more aggressive.

You may have suffered from ignoring a previous "mandatory safety stop". It will give you one if you exceed the proper ascent rate. If you do it then your subsequent NDL times are not affected but if you do not then they will be shortened.

I did read the manual as well as watching the videos and I understand that I violated the deco algorithm. I am a relatively new diver, always dive with a professional guide and have never experienced that problem before. You are all correct in saying I should have noticed it but since I was diving with others much more experienced that I, I assumed that most dive computers allow similar dive profiles. My question is really: Does the Zoop have a more conservative algorithm than most other dive computers? And why the 48 hour lock out and not just 24? thanks

Punishment for being naughty.

Some types of decompression sickness can manifest them self as late as 48 hours after a dive. So it seems that the Suunto not only wants to make sure the tissues is totally off-gased but also that the diver is completely DCI-symptom free before the computer says "OK, you can jump back into the water". That's the same reason why some agencies says that a diver should assume that any illness that manifest it self in a time span up to 48 hours after a dive is diving related.

Dive computers are a great tool...so are dive tables.

If you had them with you you might not have had to fore go a day's diving.

BTW...I have four Zoops and use them for training. Great dive computers!
