Generally, when working on dive boats, I liked to see everyone set up their gear the first time. From then on, I would change it over and set it up the following days for them. This gave me a chance to see if they are competent and give the highest level of service. As far as diving with my wife.....if either of us sets up the other's gear, we would be more than comfortable diving it. There isn't too much to screw up that I can't see just from looking at it. It's a BCD and Regulator, not too complicated.
 
Why do you care about how others are setting up their gear of they are not part of your dive plan? When on a liveabord, I consider every dive a solo dive even if I am assigned a guide or somebody else as a buddy. I would definitely not spend 1 min to try to convince somebody who has not asked for my procedures. Only reason I would get involved is if I see somebody doing something that may impact my diving — eg somebody risking DCS because of poor profiles, messing with MOD, etc. to be honest it has only happened once and the dive guides were already dealing with it before I had to.

If you go down the rabbit hole of others SOPs, you can quickly pick up the one on others equipment setup, etc. Most people do not appreciate unsolicited advice even if it comes with good intensions.
 
my wife and I do a lot of charter boat diving, and we dive steel double 100s on steel plates. She's not a large woman by any stretch of the imagination, so we've developed a routine for loading the boat and gear setup. She loads the drysuits, and thermals, and camera gear. I walk the 2 sets of doubles on my back (already setup with wings and plates) onto the boat and claim our spots. We'll both grab a mesh bag with the rest of our gear and any other odds and ends. I then run the truck back to our parking spot. In the 10-15 minutes it takes for me to walk back, she puts her gear together, and will start on mine. I'm usually back to complete my setup, and we each give the others kit a once over. It works very well for us, and we both know our roles. We're both competent, and self-sufficient when required, but some things are just easier done a certain way. We dive for fun, so easy is what we choose. If someone took issue with our methods, I'd simply laugh in their face... and then let them know we sometimes even analyze each other's cylinders and watch their head explode.
 
A Blue Angels pilot once said he hadn't done his own preflight inspection in years. Now that's some trust right there. Some teams work together like that. My wife and I are like that. YMMV.
I seriously doubt you'll ever find an airline captain doing his own pre-flight inspection either. That gets farmed out to the lowest-ranking, least experienced (or least senior) guy on the flight deck. (not implying that FEs or FOs are any less competent)
