…unfortunately I was no where near Bali as I was at hard at work in Jakarta and will not be underwater again until October. This showed up in my Facebook feed from Tamarind Divers Lembongan and was taken by Janie Mears. (I know neither.)

Good grief!

In my 33 years of diving and close to 2000 dives, I have never seen dolphins on scuba. Never. Not freakin' once. Heck, I lived for years in Southwest Florida and literally saw wild dolphins every day in the canal behind my house, but never diving.

Can you imagine dolphins chilling with that big guy? So f-ing jealous.

I've clicked 'like' on your post but actually, no, I don't like cos this has just made me immensely jealous as I'm sat here at my desk in England distracting myself from what I'm supposed to be doing...working.

Maan, that's just wonderful. I was in Bali in May and my guide spotted a pod of dolphins flying past at the beginning of the dive at Gili Mimpang but I was too slow (or rather they were too quick!) and missed them. So I still haven't seen any dolphins anywhere, diving or not (bucket list item)...although I draw a line at a zoo (Sea Life Centre etc).

I have been lucky enough to see a young whale shark from a dive boat during an SI and briefly snorkel with the beauty in Thailand. But to see the above...that's just another level entirely!!

IMG_0981_2.JPG IMG_0980.JPG Got lucky in Socorro. Came upon a pod of about 25 dolphins. They hung around a while playing in front of us at about 30 feet. Quite amazing.

Our guests saw the whaleshark at Toyapeka again today..

On Tuesday I wasn't diving but I can confirm that guys over at @World Diving saw them too... They did the Mangrove site first and then headed over to the Crystal Bay and saw those dolphins... I didn't dive yesterday, so I missed it:(

Love diving in Bali;)

Yep, I was there today... One dive team on our boat saw a whaleshark, too... Must have been the same one... Not me though but I got to see one last week at Kubu reef near Tulamben.

What a lucky dive!

My Bali DM / guide says that he has seen dolphins about 4 - 5 times in Crystal Bay. Considering he has been diving there for about thousands times, that would still be pretty rare occurrence, especially with whaleshark. However, whenever there is dolphins, there won't be any Mola Mola around. The dolphins scare the Mola Mola away.

Most dolphins I have seen were above water, playing in the pier or following the boat heading to dive sites / resort. I saw literally hundreds of them when I was in Alor (see video below)

I have seen dolphins while diving in Darwin, Galápagos for just a brief moment. Hopefully, I'll see more in my next trip to Socorro, where I heard they like to hangout with divers, even mimicking the divers by swimming in vertical posture.

Not sure there is a mola vs dolphin law as you stay, Dan.
My first sighting of 3 molas happened on manta bay depth while we had dolphins escorting our boat. They sure had scared the mantas away on surface but still not the molas at 28m depth.
