Hi, I am new to this web site and also new to blog. Very concerned about the enviroment and the future of the seas. I am taking an active interest in visiting sites where they too are concerned for the future. Besides this site I have found that DiversOnly.com is also concerned and working with Reef. I hope others out in the cyber world is also working on saving our enviroment. Let me know what you are doing and what I can do. Living in Florida we have a lot of changes to work hard at our goals.

Check out Scuble.com Not only does it have an environmental format, it has some funny videos.

LisaG, welcome to diving. You sound young, and that is not a disease. . . You will have problems telling people what's happening underwater that's detrimental. . . How do I know? I've been talking about underwater changes since the first earth day. Leading a group of divers we offered help to a National wildlife refuge, they had us pick up empty beer cans from a small lake, then told us to carry 3, 55 gallon barrels of trash out of the park. They didn't want to hear about problems in the water except beer cans.

A chemical spill in a freshwater lake was covered up. . . what do divers know about dead fish.

Now with 38 years of diving, I can get my message out by talking to fishing clubs, talk to marina operators, talk to fishing resorts. . . The way to have someone listen is to prove your experience, then talk to the people who suffer financially with the decline of water quality.

Wildlife biologists say what their bosses tell them to say, Park rangers, Corps of Engineers, will let you talk for hours, then ignore the problems. But let the people with a financial interest in live fish, complain an here comes big brother.

Dive a lot, log your diving conditions, and don't give up the first 50 times you're ignored by bureaucrats.

Lisa. I too am very concerned about the oceans as are lots of people. They say we only have 10 years to make some major changes before it is too late. A great site for kids is jimirock.com
Check out the Blue Ocean Institute site and the NRDC as well.

Welcome to the board. I remember my first ocean dives when I was in Belize and the DM for the dives was pointing out how some of the coral was bleaching out because of the rise in the water temp. It's sad to see and if things don't change soon we may lose some of the greatest treasures this plant has to offer.

LisaG... good for you. Keep working on the issues. The more of us that do, the better since the word will get out more. I, too, have been educating others about marine-related and other environmental issues... even before the first Earth Day (which I held a teach-in on).

It is harder for those who don't experience the underwater world first hand to see what we're talking about. That is why I write my weekly newspaper column and produce my daily cable TV show on the subject of marine life... to reach the non-divers who far outnumber us and need to be made aware.

The closest most non-divers get to seeing what it is like underwater is at the large aquarium tunnels at various theme parks and even then, of course, they don't show the bad stuff. Maybe someone could come up with a virtual dive that might could make people understand more clearly. Don't give up, the undersea needs more people with your desire and love of the sea and the sealife needs you!!!! Keep it up!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Bill.........nice to meet you. Why don't you check out the site that we have spent the last year developing. Jimi Rock Under Sea Adventure . It introduces children the amazing wonders that lie beneath the seas. We have partnered with some fantastic organizations like the Blue Ocean Institute and the NRDC. We are just launching the site and are already getting fantastic feedback from around the world. We are teaching children while they have fun exploring our virtual world. They are the ones who will make a difference in Ocean Conservation. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on spreading the word about our site.

welcome aboard
