MikeC:
Most likely you would be found dead, if you were thought to be a serious hazard to the mission. Of course, you might not be found for a while.

The one SEAL that I know is retired. I do understand he could kill me if he wanted to, and if his back allowed him to. That is why I am nice to his wife.

those morons who are in gangs could kill you just as dead... just a thought...

Vie:
There is are several weapons that are designed to be used against divers.

I've dived with guys that I was pretty sure were there to kill me. Now you have me wondering if there's a more insidious plan afoot. :)

I'm really surprised no one said this yet...

Anthony Appleyard:
WHich of you have been in contact with military divers? I mean assault frogmen, not armed forces' work divers. What are assault frogmen trained and equipped to do in a real war (not in training) if while on a mission they come across sport divers who might raise the alarm and thus endanger the mission?

Sorry, the information is classified. If we tell you, we would have to kill you. Buaahaha, Muahahahaha :bandit2:

ps: I am just a lowly student, nothing to do with the military here
ps: couldn't resist

My guess is the sport divers wouldn't know they were there. We were working near little creek testing some gear and were told not to motor near an area where they were doing their dive ops. It was a small bay with various types of terrain around it. We were there about two hours when they gave a couple of recall signals. Those guys popped up everywhere, we never saw one while we were on deck working.

Never ran into anyone around here while diving but supposedly my friend was surfing down near the San Onofre Nuclear power plant and a black inflatable full of men in black suits came right up to the beach a bunch of guys climbed out and hopped the barbed wire fence, running into the plant. I think I read somewhere that the military helps train the security at those plants.

The last time encountered a seal. He or she was laying around on a few rocks. After he barked at me I threw him a beach ball.

We ran into a guy in Cozumel that claimed to have been a Navy SEAL. He is in a wheelchair and still dives but he complained about everything and really made people uncomfortable. It was very obvious he has a HUGE chip on his shoulder about his disability. I tend to doubt that he was a SEAL because he didn't seem to have that "air" about him. That has been my only experience.

All special forces are the same. Specific missions being the only difference, there is no one answer to that question. If the mission could go on by avoiding contact it is allways best to do so. Contact is never good and is not tollerated. If contact is made, It again depends on the task. You may be detained, or if you are a threat to the security of the mission other steps may be taken, eather way, rules of engagement are given prior to entering. Special Forces are not standard issue GI, and don't go in with guns blazing as you see on TV. The objective is to remain unseen, as often the only mission is to gain intellagence, not to engage. And if and when engagement is made, its on our terms. not there's. Squads are small and surgical extraction is the rule.

i've been trying really hard to come up with a joke with the words "clubbing" "fur" and
"SEAL" so far, the best i can do is:

Navy SEAL goes out dancing with friends, gets busted, and the Navy throws him
into the brig. next day, the headlines read:

Navy busts SEAL fur clubbing

or how about, female officer takes a SEAL out for a night of dancing and drinking.
the officer is seen, and has a complained lodged against her. she is then demoted.
the headlines read:

Navy demotes female officer for clubbing SEAL

(before you complain, remember, this stuff is free)
