Hi,

Ok, this is an embarrassing question for me to ask. However, the situation will be more embarrassing if I don't, so might as well.

The beach trips that my OW class has on this weekend are kind of long. Like one is 7 am to 1 pm and the other one is even longer.

Now, putting on my wet suit is a real pain for me. It takes me forever to put it on and so on.

Here's my question, since I'm a gal, and a self conscious one, I've always worn full bathing suits. Always.

My concern is that those trips are long, and if I need to do my "business", then, taking off my wet suit and my bathing suit will take a really long time, and putting it back on.

Would it be better for me to wear a bikini, so, I can just pull it half way down? Or not?

Sorry for asking such an embarrassing question. I don't know what the protocol here is for this situation.

Do you normally pull off the whole suit when doing your "business" or not? I don't know.

Thanks in advance....and......sorry. If you could see me, I'm practically blushing for even asking.

Well, with only 5 dives, I'm far from an expert, but here's what I've done...

I'm not much of a bikini fan either, so I've gone the tankini route. If you're self-conscious, you can find some bottoms that have full butt coverage yet are high cut enough to still be attractive, and tops that cover some or almost all of your tummy. I find them MUCH easier to manage than a one-piece suit when it comes time to use the washroom.

I never took my wetsuit completely off during the surface intervals; including when using the washroom. I was in a farmer jane so I had to shed the step-in jacket, but only dropped the pants as much as I needed to. It's the same as using a washroom in daily life. You drop your pants only as far as you need to. (Unless, of course, you remove them completely everytime you use the loo. ;))

I wear one-piece bathing suits. If I need to use the bathroom (for any reason), I can pull the crotch portion of the suit way over to one side, and complete whatever task is necessary without soiling the suit. I don't see this as a reason to wear a two-piece suit.

I learned to detest wetsuits on our Indonesia trip, though, because I'm one of the people who lies*, and getting in and out of the wetsuit was a PITA after each dive.

* There are two kinds of people, those who pee in their wetsuits, and those who lie about it.

There are 2 kinds of divers. Those that have peed in their wetsuits and those that lie about having not peed in their wetsuit.....

take off wetsuit after the dive......

LOL...

But I definitely have _not_ peed in my suit or any suit. Perhaps I haven't had the nice yet :blinking:

I make sure I go before the dive and then after, but back to the OP, that is a long time not to pee! :11: I think just pee in your suit while in the water, the fish and other aquatic anmials do it so as they say. "When in Rome....."

bookymad,

Nothing to be embarassed about. I'm sure everyone here has a story to tell on the topic. You do of course have 2 types of waste to deal with and a lot has to do with your own regularity and how you have been eating which can throw things off when you're out having fun.

As for urine, just let it go, it's not worth the bother. In the water, between dives, whenever. When it's time to get out of your suit at the end of the day have some fresh water handy to pour down your tummy and your groin for a bit of a final flush. When you towel off to change using a few of those baby but wipes will put you in good shape.

As for the bowel thing a little planning goes a long way. When diving in the morning I get up and eat ASAP to get the ball rolling. Consider what you eat, carbs that stay with you seem to work well for me, things like english muffins. Avoid big and greasy or good and fruity. You need to somehow balance that with your cycle and void at every opportunity pre-dive.Very rarely have I had to peel down between dives or immediately after. It's almost like something about diving supresses then need. Maybe there's something TSandM can add to this.

Remember that in diving function often goes ahead of form so if it means wearing a suit other than your normal choice make that your "diving suit". A cover-up or wrapped towel can add coverage when you prefer. My experience has been that folks are more interested in what you are doing and how you do it than what we look like. Taken all together this can be a lot to assimilate as you face you OW dives. Good luck, have a great time making those dives and good job on this aspect of dive planning!

Pete
