So practice in the pool first until you feel you are confident to venture out into open water

Ha Ha...I don't know if I would start out with chlorine first. Practice in the bathtub.

suddha....What has been your experience with opening your eyes u/w...That may give us some insight that may allow us to help you a bit more. Do you have a medical diagnosis relating to sensitivity...How many times have you tried to open them...

There's no need to write a "go easy on me" statement...It's a good question...

Last night after swimming laps in the pool, I tried the "bob" technique described above in this thread. It worked! By no means am I over my problem, but it was a good start to be able to open my eyes for a couple of seconds uw.

I have always been squeamish at the eye doctor, when they do that glaucoma test, can't do eye drops and I am convinced I could never wear contacts and am stuck with glasses. But who know now?

Thanks for all the supportive feedback and ideas.

awesome!

remember, lots of people with worse problems than yours have gone on to great diving!

just don't give up =)

If you think its a problem for you then it is. However, its something that you can work around. I have sensitive eyes as well and always get that salt water stink at first. Nevertheless after numberour dives you sort of just get used to it and stop worrying about it (the mental thing that was discussed).

There are many more reason to go diving then not to!

Happy Diving

If you decide to do your class in Playa Del Carmen, I would suggest getting the academic and pool portions done before you go and getting a referral. Check out www.scubamex.com Lester and that bunch are great in Playa del Carmen. If you talk to them, tell that old codger I said howdy. Watch out for the iguanas all over the place.
