I have emailed two very reputable dive ops in Cozumel in an attempt to get reservations for February for a group of 5. This began many weeks ago. One op has replied a few times with different reasons or generic replies that they would get back to me and never did. The other has never replied. Is there a new issue that has come up regarding booking online in Cozumel or is business that good there? I have made 3 previous dive trips here and always received quick bookings to my email requests for reservations. I have had zero email issues with my lodging but can't seem to get a dive op to tell me yes or no after multiple attempts. Yes I check my spam folder daily. I will call if needed but there is no way to document or confirm reservations via a phone transaction. I really hate to go through the cattle call or mass transit system when 2 of our divers are newly certified. Really all we need is yes we will book you or no we are full.

This may or may not be the problem but most operators and agents are in Las Vegas this week for the DEMA convention. The show ends Saturday so I suspect many would be returning emails next week.

sometimes internet is sketchy at best in Mexico...but you might look to see if they have a facebook page sometimes a shout out on the page can get a response...I find it strange that you started trying to contact them "many weeks" ago and still have not had a response...hopefully you will hear back soon if not maybe you should look at other dive ops there are plenty of reputable ops on the island...good luck

I've had the same "email" problems probably with a reputable op before, maybe even the same one. I would email and just get nothing. So I quit using them. The op I use now returns emails almost immediately, consistently with no exceptions. So I dive with them, and as a bonus they're a really good dive op. Good communication is really a requirement for anyone that I do business with when I travel, whether it be a dive op, a hotel or whatever.

If they are on SB, try a PM.

It is frustrating not to hear back from a dive op. I sent out three emails a few weeks back. Never heard back from one. Got a response with a apology over a week later from another. Kay and Greg at Aldora Divers got back to me in less than two hours. I had a few questions and they answered all of them very quickly. With all the expense and planning that goes into a dive trip I want the people on the other end taking it as seriously as I am. I would move on and send out a third email. The third time's the charm.

Yes, in diving over the past 3 years in Coz, we have experienced ops who responded consistently and quickly by email, and an op where the contact and the email discourse was very very challenging and required multiple reach-outs to get a response... whether that was due to firewall issues or whatever. If you are getting automatic email responses that the op will get back to you... it is very important to scan the emails and see if they suggest a 2nd address to use if you do not hear from them, say within 24-48 hours. With that said, if communication is difficult, there are good ops on the island that just do not have that problem. Dive vacation time is precious, and it is smart to give the business to someone who makes your trip as easy as possible and focused on the fun -- including with good effortless responsiveness and communication.

if the email problem is due to sketchy internet, how would facebook work better?

I wonder how many Coz Ops go to DEMA? Regardless, his problem has been going on for weeks he says, not just this week. Internet speed in Coz can be sketchy, but emails can be received and replied by any Op - surely within a few days. He didn't say which Ops he was having problems with so they could be small Ops with one computer having local issues - just guessing.

I wonder if he is going Carnival week? Another guess as to why a couple of Ops may not be jumping to get the business. If all 5 want to dive together even with newbies involved, they should be able to charter a private Panga easily, even if the Op has to rent a spare.

It usually takes a couple of days for the different Coz ops to reply to me initial email. I think many of them are busy and don't check their different email accounts every day. I've had the same problem in Playa as well. I also think that we move at a faster pace than most islanders. Unless the email was just lost or accidently erased, there is no reason for no response in a week or longer. I assume you've sent a couple emails to them at this point.

I'll send you a pm with some dive ops that are well organized and respond to emails.
