Cell service is very dependable in the Maldives too. You can get a 3 dollar sim card upon arrival and pop it in your smart phone and off you go for the most part.

The two carriers, Dhiraagu and Wataniya also both offer USB modems for about $80 USD which would give you internet on your own computer.

I've often heard the Kona Aggressor being referred to as the "cellular" liveaboard. Which makes sense when you look at their itinerary. Maybe the only place you would lose contact is the far south end of the island.

We had internet and cell service the entire week. Was spotty down at the Ladders.

It is not a vacation if you check into work every day. Relax, enjoy, refresh, reload. Work will survive a week without you.

yes, on Kona "Cell Phone" Aggressor service was available most of the time except when way south.

I just got back from a week on the Turks & Caicos Explorer II, run by Explorer Ventures. Our T & C itinerary included French Cay and West Caicos. At both of those locations, people were able to get cell service (much to my surprise), as long as they stood on the fly bridge near the communications mast. No sure what that air time cost, but I think I heard someone say something about $2/ minute.

Blackbeard's was near cell coverage for most of the trip. It would come and go at times, but it was never a critical issue.

Really unless you are expecting a multi-million dollar payout that requires constant babysitting, you need to check your own requirements for work. Most of us are not as irreplaceable as we think, either that or you have incompetent co-workers. Your vacation, even if only one hour a day, will not be as good as it could be.

If you MUST be in contact and you are expecting that payout, iridium is your friend. Iridium Satellite Phone Communications | Home. This is the company that started a long while ago, failed, got bought out and restarted. They are *the* satellite phone guys and can hook you up. There are plenty of companies out there who will rent you a phone for a few weeks so no reason to buy.

I actually turned off my phone's notifications and chatted with a friend or two but ignored work the entire time for my last dive. It was fantastic ;)
