We only stayed at Iberostar(this August will be our 18th time). If you are interested in any info concerning this resort, you can PM me and I will try to help. Unless you like cattle boats, I would not use the onsite dive op. We use Dive with Martin and they pick up on the pier.

You are trying to compare 2 very different properties but if they are both close in price I'd stay at the Iberostar even with the high taxi fares into town. I'll also add that if you do Dive With Martin is a very good alternative to Dressel BUT there are a few pro's to using Dressel starting with convenience & the fact they return to the resort between the 2 morning dives so you can get a late breakfast in while doing your SI. I don't have a photo tour of El Cid but there are several other resort tours including the Iberostar here

Man, I wish I had seen this before picking a hotel! You have great photo tours (and now I'm second guessing my choice...)

Shocking.....

For other AIs though...still not where you'd stay if you were condo-less. Our choice was cheap though. Cheap was the goal for lodging, so we could afford to dive.

I second everything Christi said.

We used to stay at El Cid when it was just La Ceiba. LOVE the location, beautiful property. We only moved to Blue Angel because when El Cid took over they raised the price quite a bit over what we had been paying, and we got a better hotel/dive package deal with BA. La Ceiba didn't have a dive op at the time, just a dive shop to rent tanks and get weight.

It was several years ago, but the food and service were always very good. Loved the staff, Ester and crew always did a great job.

Nice shore dive out front where the plane used to be. I believe most dive ops will pick up there, again, I second all of Christi's reco's. I'd add Bottom Time Divers to the list.

We've never stayed at Iberostar, but quite frankly, haven't heard very many rave reviews about the place. I've heard more negative things, related to the dive traveler than I have positive, but some of those issues may have been addressed over the years.

Well, actually, I was making fun of you penchant for second guessing, NOT your choice in AI's I got nothing against Legionaire, er, the Sabor.

For the records, we stayed at both Iberostar and the Grand a number of times before we got wise to the whole in town action thing. Then we stayed in a cute little downstairs apt with Kelly. Then we bought a place.

We stayed at Park Royal in June and loved it. We used Dive with Martin which was only a block away and they kept our gear. Taxi to town was only $7
