I am going to Egypt Sharm El Sheikh in Feb and wondered if anyone had been there at this time. I have a .5 silverskin all in one. And a 7mm two peice. whould any of these be usefull as I don't know the temp of the water at this time. Thanks in advance

Bring both of them. I live here in Cairo and dive Sharm almost every weekend ( I know it's a hard life!). The water temp at the surface rarely, if ever gets below 70 F. If this is your first trip to Sharm, you will love the diving, but hate the crowds. Good diving!

Steve,

I agree with Mike and disagree with many of the replies youve gotten. the water is very warm in sharm and i doubt you would need a full suit. someone replied something about the locals wearing dry suits (that is a very amusing statement). I dive sharm every december and during many dives i dont wear a suit at all (swimming trunks only).

have a great time

I dived with a chap who only wore trunks in July in Hurghada. He liked to feel the water. Boy, was he shivering after each dive. He still enjoyed though.

I'm not sure why mentioning that some of the locals wear drysuits is an amusing statement. It is just a statement of fact. It might be more down to the number of dives and the fact that it is over an extended period. I certainly felt colder during dives after being there about a month even though I had the same wetsuit and the water was getting warmer.

Steve, maybe you will see Sharkys or the chap I used to dive with but almost everyone else will be in at least a 5mm full suit.

well, we may all be tainted by our experiences. in over 10 trips there, i had never seen locals wearing dry suits. the only two divers of many hundred that i interacted with that wore dry suits were a few from the northern climates (one german and one swedish i believe). and i do dive in trunks much of the time i am there in decembers past down to 24 m. nick, thanks for the url tip. i'll check it out.

in any case, steve, its not much of an issue since making a change in suit preference while you're there isnt much a problem. good luck and tell us of your experience when you return.

I used to manage a big dive company in Hurghada for a year, and did some diving in Sharm as well. I would not get in the water unlessI was wearing a dry suit with an undersuit on!

One of my staff, used to dive in trunks all year round, and meeting me in a dry suit on the same dive site was always fun for the customers.

Dry suit in December-March is a must!
