Good point. Gunnel do not have "prehensile" fins of any sort. Hake of course do and they can appear a bit "eel like" to some and do have a reddish tint in many instances.

By prehensile, I meant small and underdeveloped....I'm satisfied with it being some form of gunnel, though that squirrel hake had a similar body shape.

How about a conger eel? we see orange-ish ones here all the time.

FWIW...Prehensile=adapted for seizing or grasping especially by wrapping around
 
Alright next time you'll have to get a photo of it. I'm starting to get creeped out by all the ugly creatures I have been in the water with and didn't even know about.
