Does anyone have a link to a site where I(pre-newbie) can learn about dive tables?Keep in mind that I know next to nothing about them.
Thanks,
Spencer

You might want to D/L and learn from ScubaToys Table tutor.

http://www.scubatoys.com/store/sear...arch=fromSearch&txtsearchParamTxt=table+tutor

It's an easy install and has tables from several agencies in there.

ALSO You should take a diving course if you intend to do more than just learn about the history of tables and how they are used in Scuba.

There is alot more to diving than just knowing tables and the sport itself can be very dangerous if you are not properly trained (after all, man was not meant to breathe in water and violating the rules can mean bad things happen...)

Yes, I am signed up for a dive class this summer.
In lurking here it seems that 2 things that people have problems with are clearing the mask and dive tables. Trying to work on both before hand.

Na, dive tables are simple to figure out for basic usage. It's when you get into multilevel and advanced usage that it gets tricky (use the wheel). In my PADI OW class, they never even taught us manual tables, but used the eRPD instead, which has the dive tables in a little calculator.

Sadly standards say you can now use the eRDP instead of tables.

Massive step backwards imho.

Its also the first step to them ditching tables altogether.

My eRDP's always flood. I think they're not sealed well. I have contacted Ikelite and they're going to toss together a housing for me. Now, the old time tables? They never got soggy. I think they were plastic or something.

Can you hear that? I think it's the sound of the Computer Specialty chevron patches being stitched. Hear it? Off in the distance......

I just certified with PADI and they had us use the eRDP during the course. Seemingly easy to use for the test, but fairly clunky on the boat, and certainly not something you bring with you in the water to be able to recheck your dive plan ... :)

It was also something of a challenge to do the Nitrox course and finish the test since I'd literally never seen or used tables before.

We weren't introduced to the wheel during the course either.

All in all, as a complete newbie, IMHO the eRDP is not a terribly useful idea.

The wheel wasn't used where I was certified, and the RDP was new even the instructor had me showing the other students how to do it as well as himself a time or two.
Using an eRDP during the course sounds akin to using a calculator on a math test in school, I have no problems doing a dive plan and cannot believe that most people in my class barely passed that part, their and my instructor's ideology was use a computer. Personally I use a pen and paper and draw it out before each dive and use a comp. as well but, still draw myself a graph very basic stuff.

Also I never went back to that instructor and am better for it.....
