Can anyone give me the benefit of their experience with this op?

How are their boat dives?

Are the shore dives, Eden Rock and Devil's Grotto worth doing?

From ~6-7 years ago: The boat was so-so. Young guys ran you to the sites then back. They were a couple of bucks cheaper than some other boats and it showed. Shore diving was very nice. Eden Rock & Devil's Grotto are beautiful. Down the road a few hundred yards is Sunset House. Tiki roofed restaurant/bar and big deck and view right by the dive area. Same general dive sites.

Eden Roc is nice dive. Its also a good safe controlled spot to do a shakedown dive to see how your equipment is working and to check your dive buddies confidence and readiness. I always took my wife and son there our first day to get them wet and ready for a week of diving the walls. I have not used there dive boats.

Did some west end diving with them the summer before Ivan. The boat was manned by a couple of young men who were very knowledgeable and friendly. They allowed those of us with computers to 'do our own dive' which was nice. Can't say anything bad about the trip.

My daughter and I dove Eden Rock during our Spring Break visit. It was good dive but I would only do it on a day when the cruise ships are not in port. A much better shore dive is to go to the north end of the island and dive the mini-wall at Turtle Reef. The Dive Tech shop is co located with the Cracked Conch. We did it as a night dive and it was one of the best dives of our entire trip. I would also highly recommend Wall to Wall Diving for boat dives. Great service, low price (relative term for Grand Cayman) and small groups. :14:

Devil's Grotto was AMAZING. Dove it on Thursday from the Cayman Aggressor. Find the caves, and swim through every one! Some folks on our boat didn't find/enter them and thought it was a crap dive. They missed out BIG TIME!

You can do Devils Grotto or Eden Rock as shore dives.

I think that has a lot to do with the wide range of opinions of the two sites (Eden Rock and Devil's Grotto). If you don't do the swim throughs it's not that great. If you ask them, the guys in the dive shop are more than happy to tell you where the swim throughs and caves are. If you're not on a cruise ship, check the cruise ship schedule and go when there aren't very many ships in port. The month at a glance is easy way to do it.

That's a good point. They have a small (maybe 5"X6"?) laminated chart you can buy for a couple of bucks to help you navigate to the best spots.

Thank you everybody for your advice and thoughts. My buddy and I have decided to try the shore diving at Eden Rock. After 6 months out of the water, it will be a good way to start the dive season. We'll be sure to pick up one of the laminated maps so that we don't miss the good stuff. Unfortunately we won't be able to avoid the cruise ship passengers since that's who we are! We'll be on the Carnival Legend on it's foo-foo boat dive itinerary - Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Belize, and Costa Maya.
