I'm recently certified and my spouse would really like to make sure I continue diving. I thought about building up my purchases slowly as finances are tight. Hence my question...has anyone purchased gear through Ebay? What have been your experiences? Good? Bad?

Feedback would be appreciated.

Yes.

Good and Bad. some stuff was very nice (got a really cool, really old ScubaPro regulator that I don't need), some was dangerous (the battery charger for an underwater light had been "modified" and caught fire).

You're pretty much at the mercy of the seller. They can send you a box of rocks instead of what you ordered, and you'll have to walk across hot coals to get your money back, and even then it's not a sure thing.

Ebay/Paypal has a huge pile of rules that limit their responsibilities and increase your risk.

i've had pretty good luck so far with Ebay

i never buy from non-established sellers... i figure if they have a ton of
good feedback, they're less likely to stiff me

but remember, you'e buying used and "as is"... so... there's always some risk

I should mention that I have a lot of buying experience on Ebay, so I know what to look out for, but I was specifically wondering about Scuba equipment and if it's safe/worth it and how do I know what to get since there are so many types/styles/brands out there?!

well... wow... that's a BROAD question

you will have to break it down according to what specifically you're
looking for

I think you should research what you want first (narrow it down at least) then see if any of your choices are on eBay and evaluate the seller/item as you normally would. Chances are, whatever you decide on, it's probably on eBay...

I sell used Scuba gear on Ebay regularly. All of the items I sell are guaranteed to be in perfect working order when you receive them. I am an SSI AOWI and I take selling SAFE QUALITY gear very seriously.

I have some items I will soon be listing on Ebay, so if you need some things let me know what you need and I will quote you a price. I have regulators, BCD's, Fins, tanks, Masks, Snorkels and guages available.
