DEMA's Executive Director Tom Ingram testified this morning at the Senate Commerce Committee along with Sigourney Weaver and Dr. James Barry from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), along with other panel members.

The increasing acidification of our oceans is a major problem that we as divers need to be aware of. Yes, I know... there are those in The Pub who feel that human activity cannot possibly change something as "large" (actually small in geographic terms) scale as the ocean or our atmosphere. However, we are seeing changes that strongly suggest that indeed we as humans not only can, but do impact such huge systems.. acidification, mercury, PCBs, DDT, etc., etc.
 
We can change the oceans, just look at over fishing, which in and of itself is changing the ocean. The smell from rotting plankton in Africa is the perfect example.

Edward Norton does a great job narrating these National Geographic shows.
