This is the closest I've seen that describes my symptoms is "ear drum twitch--HELP!!": Cold and Flu Exchange - Support Group.

One med board named something called "tensor tympani muscle spasm", but further research seems to rule that out as I have zero sensitivity to loud noise nor is there a popping sound.
I have this same problem, however; it occurs very infrequently. I have had tinnitus since the age of 20. Neither are a problem to me. My wife thinks the tinnitus is an excuse to ignore her. :D
The "fluttering" is not painful or discomforting. It has not occured while diving or swimming, it's usually afterward and I just ignore it. When it stops, it's one of those pleasant feelings (like a Q-tip in the ear, after a shower) I have noticed it occurs more from cold water, almost like maybe the warming up after the dive is releasing "tension" from the eardrum.

So, Jimi, you have it and haven't found anything to 'fix' it? :depressed:

Well, I don't feel like the Lone Ranger . . . :)

I haven't actually tried to fix it, since it doesn't bother me. It only occurs occassionally, and lasts for just a few seconds. I really haven't given it much attention, but when you posted about your episodes, it just reminded me of it. I'm pretty tolerant of pain, discomfort, etc. as I was fairly abusive to my body as a youngster. :shakehead: If you do find out what your cause is or find a fix, let me know. :)

When it does it, I feel a hit of vertigo. Scares me half to death when I'm driving. :)

My extensive research on ear related stuff leads me to believe it's an allergy to HD's.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Need to get a snorkel system for my HD, see if it gets the same symptoms. :D

Whups --- we need to take this to Pointless . . . Off topic and all that, y'know!
