I've just started antibiotics for an outter ear infection. How long do I have to wait before I dive?

Howdy Beck:

Welcome to Scubaboard. Asking how long a disease process will take is like asking, "How long is a string?" It depends on the string.

Otitis externa, an outer ear infection, is the second most common diving malady after middle ear barotrauma. As you probably know all too well by now, it can be quite miserable. All diving and swimming should stop until the problem resolves completely- however long that takes. It typically takes 5-7 days for the problem to clear, but not every situation is typical.

Hope this helps,

Bill

Thanks, Bill.

Hopefully I'll be underwater soon, then.
