I have an AL tank from Luxfer with the following markings:

CTC/DOT E6498-3000
P321007 LUXFER 1 ? 80

The ? means up arrow for the hydro date.

Now according to my reasearch this tank is not made from 6351 alloy. Here at http://www.luxfercylinders.com/support/bulletins/20031112.shtml we are told that the tank is not included with the 6351 alloy. Howver I have read elsewhere that tanks made between 1972 and 1988 are.

Can someone tell help me here?

I am not trying to bring an old issue up to boil here.

Thank you

Thank you

Not all tanks made between these dates were made of the 6351. I think Luxfer never used that alloy, but I'm not sure.

What you have read elsewhere is that all tanks made in that time period can be suspected of having been made of that alloy, but obviously yours isn't. It's just a rule of thumb.

Nah, Luxfer used it. A lot.

I don't have my reference materials since they blew away in Hurricane Ivan, but if my reading of the web link is correct, this cylinder is one of the 6351 alloy cylinders. This cylinder was manufactured in 1980 and Luxfer didn't make the switch to 6061 until 1987-88.

I thought the original poster was sure it wasn't the 6351.. but the link certainly implies it is.

Drew's right...

Thanks for all the replies.
