E-PL1 in PT-EP01 with macro lense adapter

Hi!

Looking at getting the E-PL1 in the PT-EP01 housing along the macro lense adapter and a Inon UCL165 m67 closeup filter and looking for some advice on the setup. Given the threaded closeup filter, I would suppose the filter will be left attached to the adapter since the adapter can quite easily be clip onto the housing. What did you do when not shooting macro. Just take the adapter out and leave it hanging by the string attached to the housing (and possibly risk getting the filter scratched)? Just curious if there's any good/convenient way to stow the item when not in use? Thanks.

I use a ring flash on the 67 mm C/U lens adapter taking the Inon M-67 on and off the front of the ring flash. The same can be done without the ring flash. In the attached image you can see the M-67 C/U lens in a holder attached to the left tray handle. Several types are made to mount onto strob trays and arms.

Thanks Phil. Your setup looks cool! I suppose it was customized for mostly macro shooting? Am I right to say you leave your C/U lens adapter attached even when the Inon M-67 is removed? I was actually wondering if part of the adapter will show up in the photo at the wider end of the lense. I will be using the 14-42mm for a start.

Yes I leave it on and no it does not appear in the photos even with the 7 to 14 zoom.

I am probably going to buy the pen. I have a subsea macro lens(+ 5 diopter) Reefnet says it will fit into a 67mm port. Is this lens good for this setup. Thnx all

If it's a 67mm threaded, I guess it should work ok?

Regarding the earlier question about the adapter showing up in part of the picture at the wider end, I finally got around to trying it out (on land) and it did show up in the picture at the widest end of the 14-42mm kit lense. I need to zoom in to around 16mm or so to get rid of the vignetting from the adapter itself and that is when I'm shooting on a 3:2 aspect ratio. So may need to zoom in more when shooting on 4:3 aspect ratio. I'm not sure if the vignetting will be different underwater though.

The 67 mm close-up lens addapter which fits on the front of the port will vignette with the 14-42 zoom.

Regarding the 67 mm threaded ReefNet and Inon close-up lenses which are +5, +6.5 and +10 they will all work with the 14-42 zoom set at 42 mm.

Thank You. I have been going back and forth between the Olympus and the DX2G. It looks like we are leaning towards the DX2G. I hope I am making the right choice!!

It wouldn't be my choice.
Check out the difference in sensor size in the picture below between the 1/1.7 used by the DX2G (bottom left) and the 4/3rds sensor used by the Oly Pen E-PL1.
That's a big difference and will allow a much better picture and way more flexibility in shooting.
Then add in the future growth potential of the E-PL1.
