Not too sure on the equivalent diopter strength, here's an article though:

You will need a focusing light to work with these close up lenses. Auto focus is slow, much hunting. I generally push the camera towards the subject till it's in focus or close enough, then do the 1/2 press on the shutter. In other words you need to "help" the AF along a bit.
