Yes, it is the dedicated 50mm port.

Here are some pics with the 8mm FE in the Oly PPO-E04 dome.

You have some superb pics there!!
The Oly 7070w pics aint bad either :-)

When did you start using the E3?
I'm eager to know what pics you used the 50mm macro setup for?
Any pics withe the Inon close up lens attached?

Cheers
/Johan

Andy...excellent WA shots, first I've seen with the 8mm. It appears in some you were shooting without strobes and others with strobes. Did you have trouble getting even light?

Thanks for the compliments !!!

I had no strobes - my strobe arms, batteries, fibre optic cables and extension ring were in my checked in luggage which went missing. I ended up having to shoot the whole trip natural light with the 8mm - all of the other stuff was useless without either strobes or the extension ring (for the 12-60).

Got the stuff back the day we stopped diving.

Got the E-3 in April, finally took it underwater in early July I think.

Some 50mm pics taken with one or two Inons. Note some of these are cropped.

What a total bummer!!! The entire trip without flashes...
That explains a few tings... I was looking at one of your pictures with the sun shining thrue a very nice fan coral, and thought.. Gee that would have been such a lovely pic with a bit more flash output force...
Nwewer the less mighty pics.

Gues you got a lot of practice shooting in natural light, then ;-)
The colours look all very nice!
What type of settings did you use for whitebalance or did you shoot everyting in RAW and fix it in PS back home...?

I did notice in your tag, that you use a dedicated focus light in your regular setup.
Are the built in lights in the Inon flashes not powerfull enough or what's your thought on this?

When using the 50mm and the Athena port whats your minimum working distance without the Inon Close up lenses and how much do you aprox gain by ading one off them?
Do you use liveview and the 7-10X focus zoom feature or "only" the viewfinder to focus in macro.

And again, very sweet macro pics!!
That yellow spotted Blenny(?) is lovely!
Thanks for sharing!!

Any issues with the dome and 12-60 + extension port?
Working distance at wide vs tele side of the lens, UW?

Sorry for all the questions, Better stop before this turns into an interogation ;-)

All the best
/Johan

@Ce4jesus
Iv'e found ghis Asian guy on flicker that also uses the 8mm he pretty much dumps his entire memory card on flicker, but there is a few gems to be found with a bit of screening ;-)

Sheesh, I thought my shots were starting to look good until I looked at all these others. Great work!

Johan, the Inon does have a focus light, but it is pretty narrow, so useless in indirect strobe aiming. Also, the manual says to only use it 8 minutes at a time and then turn it off for 4-5 minutes or something. At least that is what it says with the Z-240-3.

Johan

I only shoot RAW and PS later - even if I have strobes. You just have so much more control over the final image.

The built in lights on the strobes are OK, my Fisheye bulb blew the moment I hit the bottom a few weekends ago so I had to use them. The problem is that it means aiming the strobe directly at the subject which causes backscatter.

According to the specs the 50mm will focus down to 25cm / 9.45in. I really have no idea how much closer you can get with the Inon lenses attached, hopefully someone with more technical knowledge will be able to help here.

I only use the viewfinder, I don't really know how the live view works on the E-3.

With the Oly PPO-E04 dome and PER-E01 extension the lens comes REALLY close to the port - no room for error ! Not too sure on the working distance, but the 12-60 will also focus down to 25cm. I was planning on giving this combo a real workout in the Red Sea, but this was not to be and the conditions around here have just plain sucked recently.

Hope this helps, if not please ask away, I'm only too happy to assist.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I guess the glass half full approach would say it made him a better photographer. I think one of the most overlooked things is the use of natural light.

Conchy, nothing to be ashamed of their..those are great!
