Just remember: after Millbrook, *any* dive is an improvement! Kidding, of course: it's a great place to practice and maintain skills.
As for gear, you might try sierratradingpost.com for a wetsuit- they have good prices and a good return policy. For a BC, consider a backplate and wings: the custom fit and reduced drag will amaze you, particularly after you've used rental equipment.
