Thanks for the updates.....I know he has had several tragdies as of late with his brothers death and then his wife.....Maybe his own illness was made worse by all his stress having to deal with everything...I feel so sad for his children...I can remember when his wife would come to meet the boats back at the pier he would jump off the boat and hug and kiss his wife and baby like he hadn't seen them in a month....

Cozumel and its many friends have suffered a great loss with the death of Martin! Not only was he an excellent business man who combined his passion for his home and support to build a long-standing dive operation, but he was an incredible father, husband and friend. He loved his son and daughter dearly and was so proud of them. For anyone who met him, you'll know what I mean when I say he always remembered a friend. Even if he had didn't remember your name, he remembered your face and heartily greeted you with a "hello, my friend!"

I know Martin would love to be remembered for being a compassionate person. For many years he has run his Share with Martin program, offering free dives to those who brought down clothing, glasses and hearing aids for those in need. On many occasions he took us to visit families living in dire conditions. Many of them had children with severe disabilities. Together we brought them supplies to try to make a difference in their lives. Martin was the impetus for a US non-profit organization we developed, Amigos de José, which is focused on improving the quality of life for children on the island who have severe disabilities.

The best thing we can all do in Martin’s name, is to dive…dive…dive and encourage our friends and acquaintances who use DWM to continue to do so. Keeping the shop alive will help his children, his family and his staff. That will keep him smiling!

I am so shocked and saddend that I hardly know what to say.

We used DWM for several years, just a great guy and a wonderful crew. I remember the first time I met him, he was having a DM meeting and saw us come out of the shop after checking in on arrival on the island and he made a special point to get up and come over and introduce himself. Small business gestures mean a lot to me.

His charity work on the island and throughout the region will also be missed, he has collected clothes, used glasses & shoes for the underprivilaged for years in exchange for free night dives and videos.

My heart goes out the children and his family, his crew and dive family,

Vios con Dios, Amigo

Dive With Martin, (his DFW booking agent... Thanks you..)

Thank you to everyone for you sympathies for the passing of Martin Aguilar.
Yes... he is going to be greatly missed,,,

I have known Martin since before he was Dive with Martin.. and have watched his business grow. Through his expertise & kindness.. he has tons of friends & customers.

I was just in Cozumel 2 weeks ago,,, and learned of his pneumonia,,, unfortunately,, Mexico just does not have the same quality medical care as we have in the states.

His family & staff really appreciate your kindness and respects during this time of need. They are all very close and are having a difficult time. My heart aches for them.

I have had many inquiries to my office about where to send sympathy cards
and sympathy emails to the family.

Please send them to Vacation Connection, (Martin Aguilar) 5205 Davis Blvd. Ste B, No. Richland Hills, Tx 76180. or sburton@airmail.net
I will make sure the family receives every one of them.

Thank you again for the sympathy & respect to his family and staff.

This is really hard news to take. We have been using DWM for several years now. Martin was such a nice guy and he really seemed to care about his employees.

Adios, Amigo

I too, am saddened by this terrible news. I have been diving with Martin for about 6 years now and always found him to be a great guy who always treated everyone so well.

Wouldn't it be nice if some of us that knew him could get together some type of donation for the family? Maybe someone could setup a PayPal account and get some funds together for his children. For a guy that used to do a lot of charity work himself I think it would be a nice tribute. I don't think I'm quite computer-savvy enough to set up an account with a linking button myself, but do any of you think this would be a good idea?

Vaya con Dios amigo...

I think it would be a great way to give back to someone who gave so much or others.

I'm still trying to figure out how to set up pay-pal for my website so I don't think I'm the one, but, hopefully a scubaboard admin person is already working on it. I assume donations could also be sent to the address provided by Divergirly.

Also, does anyone have an idea if the business will continue? or if not, when the guys get new jobs would someone please let us know where they are working so we can continue to dive with them?

This says a lot about the type of man he was. We could all take this from him and it would be a lovely tribute. I never had the pleasure of meeting him.

My condolences to friends and family.

Yes, the shop does plan on continuing and all the guys are back and plan on giving 150% to honor what Martin has built. Martin has a staff with incredible expertise both in and out of the water. The best legacy to him, and the most help for his family and friends, will be to keep the shop running. Having a terrific high season will benefit all.

I really like the idea of doing a tribute for Martin and supporting his two little ones. We have friends going down next week and have asked them to see if there are any local plans in the works that those of us in the states can support. Stacy, maybe you know of something. I'll let you know if I hear of anything.
