This isnt a boat story, but its Moronic just the same.

yeah i was the Moron. i was doing a beach dive with a spear gun at a local beach here in Laguna. Surf was about 3 to 4 feet and i was in the surf zone putting my fins on when a wave lifted the tip of the gun. At the same time i was in a hurry to get my fins on because of the surf. As i lifted my leg to put the fin on the wave angled the speargun tip just high enough to impale me in the calf. Basically, as the swell of the wave went under me (speargun on lanyard on left wrist) it brought the tip of the speargun up and when i pulled my leg up to put my fins on... ouch!

I was off for a 2 weeks

TMD

i gave up spearfishing!

Was on my OW test in Nevis. There was a group of about 5 or 6 divers in addition to my son, myself, and another "normal" guy.

One of the group was explaining to another how to use her BC and regs! Push this button to inflate, and this button to deflate. This button purges the reg.

I looked at my son and we both shook our heads. To this day, I don't know how they got on that boat. Or how she got out alive.

This was not on a boat but in the same spirit...

3 guys doing a cavern class, following their instructor into the cavern, fully clad in snorkels...

During their last dive of the class there buoyance control consisted of hanging onto the rocks for dear life (into the Devil's Eye system)

Each of the students was armed with their single SL4 light for guideance...

Then after their final dive of the day my buddy overheard them in the shower expressing disbelief that the instructor had expected them to know the hand signals.

Then there was the couple that went shooting into the cavern (Ginnie Springs)...with no lights!

They came back, with lights this time, spent about 45 seconds in a mad dash swim about the place and darted out. The man left his female partner plastered to the ceiling in a bout of bouancy issues. Later they asked us if that was the only quarry in the area.

(Same trip) Night dive going into Ginnie Springs, a woman in double steel 98s could not get underneath the water despite many tries. Not sure what was up with that one, did not stick around.

On my last dive to get my OW cert, my dive master fell over board. This left a boat driver and me looking at each other. I speak only English and he spoke only Spanish.

Darian,

Now that's funny!

Well, it ain't a dive boat story, but I saw some idiots at Blue Grotto this weekend.

My girlfriend was telling me about a lady that was talking to some man. The lady was just OW cert that day, and told the guy that you did not need any special certification for cave diving. She then told him how the caves at Blue Grotto and devils den were very nice cave systems. Well, whoever has dove at either know that the cave systems are closed off because they are too small or silty. When my girlfriend corrected the she told my g/f she did not know what she was talking about becuase she was not a diver. Well, my g/f's father and all of his friends are cave divers, and she has picked up on quite a bit just hearing the talking.

I wonder how long the lady lasts.

"oh this one is good, I've got cleavage."

Thank you for the laugh.

Two guys, military haircuts, buff, (not DIR), but backplates and wings, could've been SEALs or Rangers. . . they hit the sand on their butts and walked around on their fins.

Tied up on the "Ancient Mariner" in a little current. Diver with about $10,000 of UW photo equipment jumps in (holding equipment) and floats away. Boat had to unhook from mooring buoy to go get him.

A woman on the boat turned to me and asked how to use a compass.
