I looked at the W&T system from DUI, it is interesting. What is a v and p weight? I was looking at some of the oms pockets to add to my harness but thats just an idea.

Oversea,

"V" and "P" weights are typically cast lead pieces that are secured to either the plate or between a pair of banded doubles. They are another means of increasing the weight of the plate.

I personally have found that adding weight to the harness waist band to be counter productive. It makes the rig heavy and hard to hump around, and also makes donning in the water more difficult.

Let me also endorse the DUI harness. They aren't cheap, but are secure, and offer a means of ditching weight.

Regards,

Tobin

I understand now. Another question, on a once piece harness, unlike the "deluxe" harnesses, there is no piece that keeps the shoulder straps from sliding off. Is sliding off the shoulders generally a problem?

If the BP is adjusted properly, you will have no problems with the shoulder straps slipping off.
