My wife and I saw our first six-gill at 66 feet today.

The big fish appeared behind us immediately after we
turned the dive.. we turned
around to face it cruising by.. makes me wonder what
else has been going on behind my back in my diving career.

Big submarine-looking creature; 6-ish foot body and perhaps
2 foot of tail. It cruised around
us giving us a baleful look from its glittering white eye set off from its medium
grey body.

Thoughts that went through my head:
-- it's another diver
-- it's a whale
-- it's a six gill shark

Moral of this story: it sometimes doesn't matter how boring a dive site
is, if you're in the water at the right time.

Hey Al,

I was one of the divers who came out after you guys. Nice to meet you and your wife, and congrats on your 6 gill sighting. Here's the Big Skate we saw, around 80 fsw.

See you around!

Nice description and a reason to dive at Seahurst I guess! The eyes are actually a beautiful green but may have appeared white with your dive light.
