So looking to buy a nice back plate and wing setup.
I know i can buy all the parts cheaper or buy halcyon for a bit more but this full DTD wing rig, it looks like a halcyon infinity but $75 cheaper.
it costs $539 with shipping (to the Philippines).

or my other thought is save money and buy Golem 35lb SS combo for $360
it comes w/ all straps, plate, wing but no padding or fancy looks

This is my first time buying this kinda setup and not sure if the extra money is worth the "padding" and other things that make the DTD look fancy.

If anyone has a suggestion where to buy one cheaper i would appreciate advice. I'll be getting my DM cert and this is a treat to myself. Would some places offer a padi professional discout that would save me some money if i waited?

thanks!

i dive in warm water mostly but sometimes in the states also. so if i don't wear a wet suit does the metal plate hurt?
I used a friends Halcyon and it was comfortable, but just the metal looks like it would hurt after a few dives. yes no?? :)
thanks for the suggestions

The plate is as comfy with or without any exposure gear. I have dive with my H plate in a tee or just a dive skin n it feels almost the same.

You might want to invest in a couple of shoulder straps if you really need the padding but I am really skinny n never needed any padding even with 3 tanks.

The oms plate is just as comfy.

Take a look at Deep Sea Supply, I like their setups the best, and with a plate and harness you can have single, double, tropical as many wings as you want.

I recently returned from a two-week, warm water diving trip. I used a DSS rig and wore only a Lycra-type dive skin. The plate had no padding or liner of any kind, nor did the harness. I never noticed it specifically (as in, wanting padding at all). And it's not that I don't notice such things: I wore the Lycra shorts inside out because I don't like the seams :)

thanks for the info, guess im sold on a more simple rig. i can always attach some old wet suit pieces later if i want :)
now to choose between a DSS Single Tank Rig w/ Large Stainless Steel plate, Hogarthian Harness, LCD 30 Single Tank Wing w/ 22 mil Bladder for $470
or a
Golem 35-lbs-ss-combo for $360

i would get a 30 instead of something smaller cause i also dive in CA.

thoughts?

thx

I have DTD CUB18 and its very fine single tank wing ( high quality made ,mirror polished SS backplate...)

I used a friends Halcyon and it was comfortable, but just the metal looks like it would hurt after a few dives. yes no?? thanks for the suggestions

You can dive with without any suit on naked skin and will not hurt you at all. If you order it ; look at right corugated hose length (3 sizes)

I see only one negatives -a little to weak/thin D ring SS stoppers .

I've never used the Golem rigs. But I do have 2 DSS rigs ( single and doubles). The customer service at DSS is outstanding. Tobin, or someone posing as him, will answer all your questions very quickly. So, a +1 for DSS.

I've never found myself wanting a pad for the plate. But, most folks who dive here (Monterey and Carmel) consistently wear drysuits or 8mm+ wetsuits.

I've yet to find a place that offers a Padi professional discount other than my LDS where I DM. It's only 15%. So here in California, it pretty much just negates the tax.
