thank you guys for the quick and excellent feedback - very much appreciated. Leaning towards the DSS. The cinch quick adjust on the halcyon gear seems like a nice feature...and the padding as well, but like ams511 says I can probably find one that would work on the DSS if i really ended up feeling i needed it. And Im not sure those features are quite enough for me to justify the price difference I think. I could use the $ savings towards a better regulator haha

thanks again, I really appreciate the help!

I would not base your comparison of DSS with Halcyon's Infinity package. The basic Halcyon & wing is what 98% of tech divers utilize. This will bring the prices more in line. Halcyon is purchased by experienced divers at less than retail price. Good luck!

98% wow that's a very high number, not trying to be argumentative just curious how that figure is arrived at. Cheers.

Agreed. In my experience I'd say more like 1 in 5 or so are diving Halcyon. It's good gear, but superior to others I'd say is a stretch.

I think what Scott meant to say is that for divers that chose Halcyon, 98% choose the Eclipse over the Infinity.

I would think you could push them at least 10-20%.

If I were buying new, DSS for sure.

Once my Pioneer 27 finally goes, I'll be switching to a DSS singles wing, and I've already replaced all my H wings' OPVs with the better built DSS ones. I'll probably stick with H for my doubles wings, but I don't think I've ever bought a piece of H gear new.

I'm unlikely to get rid of my H plates in favor of a DSS one, but that's only because I snagged H Al and SS plates for very cheap prices and I'm unlikely to ever need more plates. The DSS bolt-on weight plates seem nice, but they don't do anything for me that a v-weight can't.

I own both DSS and Halcyon rigs. The first BP&W I got was the DSS single tank rig with the Torus 36 wing. I purchased this rig as a package after talking with Tobin on the phone. I dive only steel tanks and this rig worked great for me, and I always knew I could go to doubles by just changing out the wing. I would buy a DSS rig again for sure if I needed another set up. I had the opportunity to get into a Halcyon rig at a very attractive price. I have the whole shot: 40 lb wing, SS BP, and weighted STA, cinch set up, and weight pockets (which I have never used). I like the Halcyon rig alot, and I now dive it more that I do my DSS, DiveRite, and Apex sets. But, If I were looking for the best bang for the buck I would order a DSS package rig.

I am not so sure. A few dive shops are selling the 2012 Hollis wings for $200. I picked one up on an impulse buy. The quality is excellent. You could pick one up for $200 add a cheap Storm Al plate and harness and some cam straps and you can have a full setup for around $300. You could get a Dive Rite travel BC for around the same price. I don't have a Dive Rite wing so I can't attest to the quality.

Hey not a bad idea - I'm in CT

***sorry that was in reply to the post regarding finding someone with both rigs to check out who lives nearby***

Out of curiosity could one use the Eclipse wing with a DSS backplate? Do you for see any issues?
