So I'm getting into doubles and I just picked up a set of Apeks XTX50 with DS4 first stage regs for them. I'm going to be starting with doubled AL80's as my first set and using a Halcyon Evolve 40 BP/W set up. My question though is in regard to routing. I haven't found anything conclusive yet about what the best way to set up the hoses on the first stages is and the best way of routing the hoses. It seems like some people have it set up to run behind the wing, and others to run in front. Also for the backup, some people run it over the corrugated, some under it. So now that the Evolve has been out for a while, and I'm sure people have had a chance to play with it. What's the best way to run the hoses?
BTW, I'm going to be mounting a 6 ft. argon bottle to the backplate if that matters for the routing of the SPG.
Thanks,
Shane

For the Evolve (and any donut wing) you'll want to have the long hose in front of the wing. If it is routed behind the wing it might cause the wing to trap air, thus negating the benefits of the donut wing.

Here's how I do it - I run ALL the hoses in front of the wing. Backup (LP hose) runs under corrugated hose. You may need to use a 24" LP hose for the backup.

Pic shows DS4s with AL80 doubles/Halcyon 300BAR manifold.

DS4s will work ok with the Evolve 40 but I find that FSTs (or even MK25, though the right post will be a bit weird) offer better hose routing when used with the Evolve 40.

Thanks for the pics. It's quite helpful. I'll have to try it today and see how it looks.

If anyone has any other ideas, feel free to keep them coming.

Thanks,
Shane

Do folks typically keep the hose protectors on? I've heard differing opinions.

I would certainly take the hose protectors off. The hoses route better that way IMO, and you are more likely to spot any wear.

Also as SpareticleBarne said it is best to avoid routing behind the wing. For the back up run it under the corrugated hose.

Check out: DIR-diver.com - Reg configuration doubles

It's got great info for setting up your gear.

Uh, I was taught in my GUE-f class to dive the long hose behind the wing if possible - go back and re-read what Sparticle wrote - you'll see you are making a blanket statement from an exception.
