The old boys in our club have been diving drysuits since the 1970s. They taught me to use a lighter and to rinse, let dry then wax the zipper after every use.
I must admit though that the Ursuk (major drysuit manufacturer in this area) web pages say to just carefully cut any fabroc wisps using scissors. In practise the lighter seems to stops the unraveling much, much more effectively.
