dry suit hood goes on last and set on top of the neck seal.

wetsuit hood gets tucked in to the wetsuit and the collar seals between the wetsuit and the hood.

I know but I have issues with things being tight around my neck and I don't like how restrictive a wetsuit hood feels. I was thinking a drysuit hood would be more comfortable. Would a drysuit hood work the same if it is on a wetsuit?

My dive buddy accidentally bought and used a drysuit hood regularly with a wetsuit. Worked fine.

Then he lost a bunch of weight and now he only has a wetsuit hood that fits, so he dives a wetsuit hood with a drysuit. Works fine, just have the bib that floats up, but he tucks it under the shoulder strap on his BCD.

I personally prefer a drysuit hood with a wetsuit, as long as its not incredibly cold water.

I prefer using the shorter dry suit hoods when in a wetsuit, unless I'm wearing a hooded vest. Less bulk and fussing around.

A "dry suit" style hood works excellent with a back zip wet suit (this is actually the style Wetwear recommends/makes for their suits) with the semi-dry seals on the collar of the suit. As said above, unless its really cold water, that "no bib" style works fine. Sub 55-60 degrees, and I'm going dry... Interestingly enough, my DUI suit has whats called a "warm collar" that is a pocket to tuck the bib of a "wet suit" hood into. I really like that in the cold.

So, looks like I use both, but opposite to what they are intended for....:D YMMV

Poomero:

Go see Cricket at Otter Bay, next time you're in Monterey.

She'll do you right with a custom hood that'll keep your head toasty, even if everything else is cold.

That's the plan I just want to make sure it would work before order it.

Exact same problem for me - to tight around my neck. My buddy also had the same problem so we cut the "bib" off the bottom of the hood. I made the cut just below the sewn seam so it wont unravel. Works great.
