How bad is it to dive a dry suit wet? What I mean is not use the air?

If you go deep enough, suit squeeze can cause discomfort or pain. It can also be very dangerous.

Since you are asking such basic questions, it just reinforces the "take a class" point.

Good news. Good decision.

Have a great time, learn loads and, please, report back.

A drysuit can be difficult at first. Your course should set you on the right path. Once you get the hang of it, they are the best. Nothing like being comfortable in all water temps and at the end of the dive, just taking off the top, tying the sleeves and relaxing warm and dry. Have fun!

One ''Big'' thing I forgot to ask before I went off about diving the dry with no air... was it neopreme or shell. Both of my drys have been neopreme..thats a kind of comfy squeeze. Plus you always have that ''built in''bouyancy. A shell suit would be a differant animal

Another good thing about diving dry is the look of envy you get on the cool/windy New England evening dives when the wetsuit divers are jumping around trying to keep warm while changing into dry clothes. You'll be there toasted warm and dry.
