Hey is this course worth it? like really do they ever ask you to show your card on a dive charter? or did you guys just get the instructor at the place when you buy it give a little demo?
Chris

I took it and I new how to dive with one but for the trainning and skills I would learn I took it and Im glad it did.

If your renting a drysuit most dive shops ask for you card. so you might need the class to rent.

take the class and have a good time learing with a diving mentor.

Cause i was going to buy one but out here the course is like 120 bucks to take and i see it kinda pointless. When you buy it here they teach you how to use it and our dive shop does dives every wed now so if you ever needed help just ask there? or should i spend the 120 bucks that i was putting into other courses?

I bought my High Tide SE at my favorite LDS and not only did I get great customer service and a competitive price, but they are going to throw in the SSI Dry Suit Speciality course as well. I don't think Joe Diver coming in off the street would get the same deal, but there is something to be said about customer loyalty. I have been following around this same dive store manager/instructor for about 15 years now.

Can you get that from an online shop?

Tim

I buy most my stuff on Online cause my lds is way way over priced neways i only use them for courses and air fills. Plus we have a new one opening up in the summer some time so this one i use will loose me and alot of there customers to the new one if they are better hopefully :)..

I may be out of line here, but why doesn't an LDS require a "Wet Suit" C-card if you want to rent a 7mm farmer john/jacket. The buoyancy issues when diving deep with lots of neoprene can be just as disastrous as diving a dry suit.

Many LDS will throw in a FULL Drysuit course WITH the drysuit. If they don't then I strongly suggest you take one on your own. A drysuit is NOT just another passive piece of equipment like a pair of fins that you throw on & dive with.

A course will teach you how to use your drysuit safely & effectively.

When researching my drysuit purchase, I discovered shops will either offer a pool session or throw in the certification at no cost. I, however, purchased on-line and, therefore, will be paying for the certification (my regular dive bud dives semi-dry).

I agree,
A course is recommended , to discover all the hidden" benefits" of a dry suit,
but most importantly are the other issues, such as buoyancy control, weight issues,
as well as getting used to the difference in fit and feel while in the water.
take a course and you will be more comfortable as well as being warmer and
also be dry!
Happy diving! R.H.

Id say if you have a buddy or someone experienced in using a dry suit who is prepared to show you how to use it the course is a total and utter waste of time and money.
