I am not saying dont let him show you some ropes but remember this most dives shop wont let you dive on thier dives in drysuit with out the proper training just food for thought
 
in my suit, are not sufficient for an operator then I'll find another one.

Forced extraction of money as a sop to "teach" me what I believe is a dangerous practice I will not countenance.

I've never been asked for a drysuit drivers license by any shop. Of course, I've probably never been to "most".

I've heard of places that won't rent drysuits out on trips, etc. without seeing one's drysuit certification!
 
I live in the Vancouver (BC) area and have been asked for my Dry Suit Cert, when renting a dry suit. I took the course as part of my AOW and also took the Dry Suit Specialty (Both PADI). I have to say the the instructor did a very good job with the course with lots of practice in emergency related skills (inverted, stuck valve etc.). Base on my experience, I would advise to take the course.
