Here's my personal experience. If I swim continually I produce more saliva, if I do no work (float, take pictures, scooter, anything where I don't swim) then I have dry mouth. The air we breath from scuba is supposed to be super filtered with no moisture, Least that's what I was told.

But this is all from theory, experience, and hear say. Simple fix, let some water in and purge via regulator.

We have a dive trip to bonaire coming up and plan on getting a lot of dives in. the problem stems from my girlfriends tendency to get a dry throat that can become painful for her after about 2dives a day. does anyone have any experience with the apollo biofilter moisture system?Apollo Sports: Dive Gear: Regulators: Bio-Filter.
Or does anyone else have any ideas on how to deal with this problem?

I have used a full Bio Filter configuration for several years now. It's a great setup and does a good job of reducing dry-air effects and improves comfort. I personally feel that it also helps offset the potential for DCS symptoms, and aids in reducing fatigue and headaches due to dehydration from breathing compress air that can often have an average humidity level of 0.1%. Obviously, breathing re-humidified air isn't going to help as much if you went out on a drinking binge the night before and didn't bother to hydrate your body the morning of your four-tank.

I can certainly sympathize with the other side of the discussion; that it's more money, that it could be considered another point-of-failure, and it's an additional item to maintain and service, etc. Having said that, it works great for me and almost eliminates the negative effects of breathing dry air. On top of that, the charcoal filter helps remove micro-particulates from the air supply, and I have found virtually no difference in inhalation effort while using the device. It has accompanied me on many dive adventures and has never given me any problems, but if it did ever break I'd definitely buy another one. I would say its' major drawback is probably the fact that it is a little pricey, but it enhances my enjoyment of diving and I'm happy to have it on my rig.

Hope this helps

i use to have a horrible problem with dry mouth. I currently only dive FW so I use to not have a problem with taking the reg out and swishing some water around and purging, this is only a temporary fix. So I invested in the sherwood oasis regulator. i don't remember the specifics (so you should definitely read to be sure) but i believe theres a piece that collects moisture from you breathing and allows it to stay in your mouth. But point is it works phenominally. the first dive it was a little dry but it kicked in pretty soon and went to work. when I did my AOW training we went to around 90 feet and it was 39 degrees and I was only in a 5mm. So needless to say i was freezing. when I got that cold as you know the air you breath is dry, but i started becoming in more of a paniced state because i was freezing and wanted to go shallower. But I started sucking down air a lot quicker than usual and no a single problem the entire dive. I definitely recommend the sherwood Oasis reg. im not sure if any other companies do anything like that but it wont be a waste of time IMO to look into them. Hope this helps

Dryness!!!

Prior to a dive and in between dives. You should drink a lot of water; only stay away from POP, Juices, Sweets, fried foods, and such. If your a smoker maybe more sensitive to dryness.

Drinking water keeps your system moist and clearing mucous of such. Drink water as much as possible.
