I completely agree with Mike, however I think the Padi method does have one benefit. You'll be comfortable with too much air in a suit and know what not to do.

For regular diving I think using the suit as a BC is cracked. Even if my older Viking manual says to do it that way I won't. What's funny is my newer Viking manual says to use a BC as a BC was meant to be used. From what I've seen many of the new drysuit manuals go that route. Padi's just old school is all, they haven't adapted as everybody else has.
