I use the integrated yellow liners too, I'll third the locker room stench. They also take just shorter than forever to dry out.

Does anyone have the link for picking up a pair of Atlas gloves? I saw them somewhere online for about $29 dollars with liner.

I saw the same glove from SI Tech for $50 dollars including liners, what is the catch are they the same thing?

Thanks

MG

Those are the exact liners I've been using for a few years now (from REI). They're great (warm, nice fit, dexterous, etc). I pair these up with some $3 Atlas gloves.

Since no one has mentioned liners, I recommend getting rid of the bulky yellows mitt and replace with a better liner.

I use the Mountain Hardwear Power Stretch. They even have woman's gloves too (for those slender fingers).

When I was down on the Peace, Ken Kopp (Mo2vation) had a couple of really nifty dry glove driers he'd made. If you can contact him (over on DMX, perhaps ... he's not on SB much anymore), he'd probably give you the plans. Seems they're pretty easy to build.

It appears the SI tech rings have two different ring systems.

Which of the two is the newer design? If there is two versions, which is better than the other, did they improve on the leaking gloves?

I wonder about the SI tech gloves leaking at the ring, I have nothing positive about the DUI compressed neoprene gloves, never a leak and I have dove them quite a bit.

However, I don't like the fact that they don't come off in between dives.

The bottom example is the newer one. I have the older system (top example). I've never used the newer system.

I am about to place my order on the SI tech glove lock rings plus their gloves with liners... The only concern I have is this...

I have been diving my gear for close to 30 dives without changing anything, keeping it constant I have become a safer diver...

I am use to my thick compressed neoprene gloves from DUI, will changing up my gloves create a dependance to thinner gloves and make my thicker gloves useless for future dives?

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, if and when I take my Fundies class, shouldn't I stay with the glove I have dove the most, will getting a newer glove only change things up once more?

Thanks for the replies,

Mike

Is it common practive for DIR divers to have two sets of drysuit gloves, different types?

No one I know uses two sets of different dry gloves (plenty sometimes dive wet or dry, though).

In any case, get in a few dives with the new gloves and you'll soon be quite sorted.

I must say, though, that I detest the Atlas gloves with built in liners. I much prefer the 660s, which fit significantly better, and my own, better fitting, warmer, dryable, under gloves. Too each his own, though.

It won't make that much difference. I do know people who switched back to wet gloves for the class because they believed it made valve manipulation easier. My take is that if you're doing things to make the class easier, you're kinda missing the point of the class ... take it in the gear you plan to use once the class is over.

Not common ... and it kinda goes against the whole "standardization" notion. On the other hand, it's such a minor thing that I think it falls below the "noise level" of what makes someone "DIR" or not.
