Just saw this,

Hi folks. We pulled up to the Rhone today and I was briefing my crew on the site when we heard cries for help. A diver had drown and was brought to the surface by her husband/dive buddy between our boat and a dive boat. The dive boat pulled them aboard and began cpr. I quickly ferried a doctor and pa from my crew to help with compressions. We called VISAR who arrived and transported her to Peebles. She was not breathing and had no heartbeat. We have no idea the outcome, but the diver was unresponsive for at least 45 minutes. My crew is wondering about the outcome. We've been checking the local news and haven't seen anything. This was about 9:30 this morning. If anyone knows anything would you please post or pm me? 30 minutes of compressions while the rest of my crew looked on from 50 feet away praying has left an impression on the crew. I'm a diver since 1988. Not asking for speculation or judgment. Just trying to find out if she made it. Thanks. Matt

We were on the dive boat that pulled the distressed diver on board. Luckily we had two nurses on board and with the doctor and nurse delivered from another crew, they all rotated and performed CPR on the woman for at least 30 minutes before rescue showed up and transported her and our two nurses to Tortola. They were able to get a pulse back but we have been informed that she did not survive. Tragic and certainly traumatizing to all who witnessed it. Out hearts go out to her family and friends.

Thank you for posting. Sorry the diver didn't make it. Do you have any other information as to if it was a medical issue or a dive related issue?

No. We will likely never know. She was already in distress when we were picking up our mooring. There was nothing obvious.

This is such sad news. It was a noble effort on everyone's part to assist her. Sadly, some accidents are not survivable. Condolences to her family and friends and all involved in the rescue effort.

I was one of the divers on the boat that pulled her aboard. We got the news on Joat when we ran into Karidiver. It was a very sad day for all concerned, but I was impressed by the effort of the dive master and passengers. When she was pulled aboard, the 2 nurses on our boat and a PT aboard began compressions and were later joined by the doc and NP from the boat next to us. The five of them rotated like the team they became. Once the rescue boat arrived, our two "nurse rock stars" transferred to the rescue boat and continued compressions to the hospital.

We'll likely never know what happened to cause this, but the message here is to know what you're doing (cpr) certification, dive with a respected organization (we did), and take nothing for granted. This poor lady was no rook. Her dive buddy/husband said she was approaching her 200th dive.

I'm going to continue diving as long as I can, but I'm never going to forget that day, or the heroes who came out of nowhere to try to save a life.

Hello Matt,

I would not only like to thank you for making this thread, but would like to thank you for your assistance to this diver. The person you are speaking of is my sister, Barb. Her husbands name is Rich and they had dived many of those dives together(just under 200, can't remember the number). She lived her short life to the fullest. She was beautiful, witty, and full of love and compassion. She will be greatly missed. She was experienced in the water so we can only suspect equipment failure or something health wise at this time. Rich is still stuck over there and we pray and anticipate them both coming home to Colorado soon, along with their two friends who went with them. They have graciously stayed with him during this absolute tragedy.
God Bless you, your crew, and all those involved for making every effort to save her. It brings us such peace that she was well looked after with doctors and nurses and that many were praying. Barb had such a love for Jesus and as her brother, I would encourage you to share this fact with your crew so they will have peace in this too. Matt, thank you. I have no other words for people such as yourself and the ones involved. You are heroes.

God Bless you Kari Diver. Please take solace that Barb knew Jesus. Thank you for every effort made, I guarantee you she was worth it. She touched the lives of many and is soo sorely missed. As tears stream down my face I cannot thank you enough. You have brought some additional peace to a heartbroken family.
