Drowning: A peaceful way to go?

How do know that I did not help the racoon? It was below the surface (you know, it drowned).

Where was the racoon when you first saw it? On the surface? And if you helped it, why did it drown?

But wait, I read all the way through this and the last post is deleted just because it's a necro thread? How disappointing. It really is morbid, but interesting. I think I recall reading about the Navy Experimental Dive Unit having divers swim progressively deeper on pure O2 until they started convulsing and passed out, and them not recalling anything about it.
