On the motion pills do start way in advance, like the night before as many mentioned. They make me drowsy if I am inactive but seem to have no ill effect if I keep active.

The only thing I've found is it does strange things to my mind if I take a Sudafed with it and dive.
I've heard the same thing from one of my instructors, actually. He did *not* like how his mind was affected when he took both. It made for a great story to tell OW classes, but apparently it totally freaked him out enough that he'll *never* do that again.

I take Bonine. I start the night before, then another right before I head out to the boat. So far, I've not seen any adverse affects during my dives.

However, after the diving's over, I'm exhausted and want to sleep. Could the Bonine be doing this, three or four hours after I've taken the last one?

Ber Rabbit - surely if you're having to take sudafed then perhaps you shouldn't be diving as you're putting yourself at increased risk of barotrauma's i.e. reverse block.

I live in Ohio, a place fondly called "Sinus Valley" and anyone who has lived here very long has sinus problems :D I can actually feel the barometric pressure change and I get a headache when a weather front is coming. The only times I have ever experienced a reverse squeeze was when I hadn't taken anything and my sinuses failed to adjust to the pressure change quickly enough during ascent. This is one reason I like to have plenty of air when I start an ascent, I KNOW my sinuses adjust to pressure changes slowly thanks to the ever changing weather where I live. I took a Sudafed between dives and was able to comfortably finish the day. I rarely take the Sudafed, the right combination of weather front and diving really doesn't occur that often.

I make sure to tell my students they need to evaluate WHY they are considering taking Sudafed before a dive. I never dive with a cold or sinus congestion but if I just need the Sudafed to relieve sinus pressure then a 24 hour (at minimum a 12-hour) pill makes the dive more enjoyable. I can still dive without it but the risk of a reverse squeeze is greater for me if I skip it in those conditions.

We all use the chewable orange Dramamines. Even if it does not look like a rough day, I take one, a half hour berfore stepping on the boat. Instructors and experts often mention the importance of being a well-hydrated diver. Vomiting takes that away.

A coulple of Sam's Club Diet Colas served on the boat is enough caffiene to counter any sleepy effects. It all works out real well.

It takes a full 24 hours for the funk to wear off in my case. So my experience says YES to your question.
