Dove the Oriskany on the 1 year anniversary

It is a Nice video - but what gives with the flying motions? Seems as though the date wasn't the only thing spoofed. I thought the diver was on final approach with a 40 knot crosswind. Aren't you suppose to be an Advanced diver to do this dive without a Divemaster? (Maybe the video person was a "Divemaster").

To their credit, they did get a really nice shot of Captain Dave's MIA Flag and my buddies the Barracuda guarding it.

Congrats to the divers and crew that did make it to the Mighty O and do her right.

I use to think you had to be South of Cuba to get a great dive - but that was only until I dove the Gulf.

Interesting YouTube vid. Yeah - sorta interesting to see the hull sitting so pretty. The ladder is barely even moving. I'd be really surprised to hear that was shot on the 17th, especially as you said - there wasn't a soul to be seen out there that day.

You're correct, that video was shot earlier in the week, and was used during the memorial ceremony on shore since we couldn't get the vets out to the site that morning.

Not sure what you mean by your comments, but I assume it's an attempt at an insult?
The diver was carrying a lot of heavy equipment through much of the video, and was very negative. He did a great job, but we've given him hell for lookin bad on video anyway. Keep in mind, the video wasn't made for divers, it was made for the Vets.

As long as we're pointing out flaws, maybe a fish ID class would be in order?

Thanks for clarifying. Makes perfect sense. Wasn't the best conditions for any kind of topsides ceremony for sure.

We had a lot of disappointed vets that morning, but when they saw the water, they weren't TOO disappointed anymore.

We did get one of the Vets (a diver) out on the 16th, and man what an incredible experience. He had been on duty in the bridge when the fire broke out in 1966, and after all these years, he still knew his way around the ship. The grin never left his face the rest of the week.

It was a bit sloppy but I think if NOAA would not have screwed up the forcast once again the H2O BELOW would have made it out with ease.It is great that ya'll were able to get one of the vets out, I bet it was an awsome experince.

If it had been a regular dive trip, H2O would have gone for sure. The whole purpose of the days tirp was to let the vets watch the underwater event from the surface via a live feed video camera. We had very conservative go/no-go criteria.
