Put boat in for the season last night and dove Kettle Island off Manchester.

A bit bumpy...

3-6 feet visibility
41 degrees
saw two bugs - that's all
not a great day fordiving but it is always good to get in the water...

Not to be confused with Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth Maine where I dove today, Water 40F, visibility about 15 feet and not much seen for critters.

Anytime you can make a nice safe dive it's suddenly a good day. :)

Glad you had fun

I have anchored there for surface fun before but never to dive. What do you see there?

Most of the usuals. Lobster, sculpin, stripers, starfish, crabs lots of little critters. The ledges towards the left are nice with a lot of different colored plants. If you're lucky you can find 40 feet. You can cut over to the next cove to the left and that's nice too. Great place to feel out new gear and let new divers spread their fins.

Oh yea, this too:

Part of the lure is that it's just a darned nice place to be. Easy entry, sheltered just enough, free paved parking, restrooms make it a nice place to be, especially with the ladies along. Magnificent sunsets over Crescent beach. The grassy promenmade is the sort of place folks go to with a blanket, wine and cheese. Know what I mean, just a real nice place to be.

It's also really handy for me working in Westbrook to get to for an after work dive.

When 2 Lights is a mess Kettle in 3 minutes across the peninsulla and will be nice. Visibility is usually as good an anywhere else.

ONE THING: The property is a "Maine Public Land" and is operated by the parks bureau. As such you do need to get a permit to dive there, it is free. The ranger will stop by to check. Just have your C Card and he'll issue one for the year. Display it on your dash when diving.

Let me know if you want to shoot up sometime.

Thanks for the info. I was referring to Kettle Cove (MA).

I prefer to moor at Cocktail Cove/Great Misery but I'm curious what is around Kettle UW.

Speaking of Kettle Cove - I drove to Magnolia yesterday at hight tide to check out the surf. Huge 10' rollers breaking right near shore - between kettle and magnolia. Playing in the waves were a group of seals that were getting completely airborne. It looked like the video of the Great White Shark chasing the seals out of the water. Pretty cool. I bet the vis is a little down today though.

Kettle (in Magnolia) is a nice, easy dive. Great bug hunting in season, small wall, lots of interesting life and structure. Max 40-45 feet. Just a nice local dive via. boat. One of my favorite low stress dives.

MadisonK - I was surprised I did not see any seals, but vis was bad..... yeah, glad I was not there yesterday. Sunday was ugly enough. Hey - did you sell your boat? Will I see you out there this year?
