I was wondering if I can get some advice as to a doubles set up. Here is my criteria...

1) Balanced design

2) Cold water compatible

3) 300 bar DIN

4) Be able to get both < $1000

5) A brand that is easy to get serviced

1, 2 and 3 are pretty easy. The problem starts at 4 and gets worse with 5. There are several "kits" out there that can get me what I want but they are made by companies I have never heard of and I worry about getting parts or what I need to do to get them serviced.

Thanks!

I went with the dive rite hurricanes. Two years between service, cold water ready, breath great and they are on sale.

Zeagle ZX-DSV's would be my choice. I own 2 of them, as well as 2 of the more expensive flatheads, and I cant feel a difference. Right now you can get them for $364 from scubatoys, or you can get the ZX-50D's for $20 less. The 50D is the same second stage, but the first stage has a turret swivel.

I like the Zeagle firsts but thought the second were a bit big, We went Atomic Z2s. If you do some shopping around (ie. sales) you can probably get both for under $1k.

Funny how opinions differ, when I got my first DSV, I thought the second stage was small lol. In the water most regs with correct length hoses are not noticeable anyway.

I have Zeagle DS-Vs and IVs with ZX second stages. They work fine for doubles, with adequate hose routing. I got all of my reg hardware for about $350 total. The secret? Buy used. Once serviced, they're as good as new.

Good advice, I got one of my DSV's used for $150, tossed a kit in it, and it's good as new. Breathes like a dream, I used it on an 80 stage at 126 feet a little while ago, and when I compared it to my Flathead's at depth, I couldn't tell a difference.
