hi all,
i have a scubapro classic plus bcd and i would like to try diving with double tanks. i called scubapro and they told me to buy an aftermarket system what would attach to my bdc and allow this. do you guys know of such a thing? have any of you had experience with this type of system? thank you,

Sorin.

p.s. i dont wanna blow more money on a wing+backplate combo.

Why don't you sell the scubapro classic plus and use the money to buy a BP/W which will work great for both single and double tanks? You'd need two wings, but so what? Don't buy them at once.

Besides, not wanting to buy a BP to save money when you're getting into doubles is a little ironic, considering the manifold, bands, extra reg, extra tank, etc... a hammerhead AL plate is about $50, and you can find a decent doubles wing used easily. Maybe you already have the other stuff, but if not, a BP is the least of your worries.

Sorry, I can't answer your original question about the attachment for the jacket BC.

I don't think those work well at all. If you can afford the hundreds that a double rig costs you can afford a few hundred bucks for a used BP+W.

You can, no problem.

The ScubaPro hard pack was shaped to dive singles or doubles, and the through holes on the plate are there to mount double tanks. You may need to slightly enlarge the holes to fit the modern double tank bands bolts.

I have done it with my ScubaPro Classic.

If it is not a boat dive though, you will learn real quickly why backpack style webbing has become popular for doubles.

No experience with the system but I'm sure it will work.

Just off to pound some nails with my iPod. Dont want to blow any more money on a hammer :D

I used to dive with my Scubapro Double Black BC. Had to steel 72s with a manifold and the bands were attached to the backplate with stainless steel wingnuts and bolts. The plastic back pack is more than sturdy enough.

The back pack I had was an older unit from 1977 (at least that what the dive shop told me) that had the stainless steel attachment point where tank band cam buckle would hook into. This made it easy to attach the tank band and cambuckle for singles. The doubles would be removed by removing the wingnuts that bolted through the back pack.

I still dive with the BC. I have since sold the two steel 72s and hardware for the doubles set-up.

It can be done. If you have the usual SP back pack. It would mean having to thread the cam buckle and tank band when converting to singles.

When I was using it on the doubles. It was pretty much a permanent set up and I had another BC for singles.

on the bcd sticker thats taped under one of the weight pouches it clearly says doubles could be used with this bcd. i was hoping scubapro would actually make the necessary parts to allow for this. i called them and they said they dont. what is this "scubapro hard pack" that everyone is talking about? is is the plate behind the bcd that sits between the tank and the bcd?

I dive twins with my Classic Sport. I built my own set up and bolt the twins right to the BC through the bolt holes in the back pack. I would imagine you'd need to pull off that padding on the Classic Plus.

doesnt your bc have that padding as well? i assume i could put the padding back once i screw in the tanks, right?
